How to be Successful when Applying

Many people start looking for a new role for many different reasons:
-
Career progression
-
Salary
-
Culture of business
-
Risk of redundancy
-
Business / personal changes
So, you have made the decision to take that step into looking and you are ready to apply for a new opportunity, but what should your application and process look like?
Hints:
-
Thoroughly understand the role and business, a quick search online can help with this. Distance .. working patterns and hybrid opportunities can all determine whether the role is suitable from the start.
-
Update your cv and LinkedIn, use our CV guide to help. Don’t let future consultants or employers receive a cv from 6 years ago or see a dormant profile – be proactive.
-
Apply with a professional email and name.
-
Tailor your cover letter to the role, use key words that will highlight your experience.
-
Always spell check.
-
Make a note of key dates, when is the closing date and when will interviews ideally be if successful?
-
If you are applying to several different roles, keep track. Where .. who with.. which roles. Don’t duplicate your application with agencies, it doesn’t look professional.
Direct applications can sometimes take longer for a response, should the closing date have passed, and you haven’t heard, check in with the business or ask your consultant for feedback.
Small adjustments to your approach can make all the difference to your application.
